Which Resume Should I Use?

After having attended a mandatory WorkSource meeting as mandated by the state when receiving unemployment, I was suggested to use a functional resume due to the long employment gap I would have when leaving off two roles I had after my summer internship in 2022.

When using ChatGPT to suggest which version is better, it was version 5 (chronological). I’m guessing leaving out a couple roles that are not listed on my chronological resume are not the biggest deal.

I am thinking of adding a key achievements section to my chronological resume though.

Which version should I stick with? Should I add a Key Achievements section?

Thanks for any feedback!

I think that V5 is stronger. I think your Relevant Work Experience is already achievement-focused which is great. That said, I’d maybe move the experience above the skills. That’s just my 2 cents. The Key skills being on the resume is great so that ATS keywords pick them up and a recruiter that is interested can see that you check those boxes…

But, I’d say calling attention to your tax experience and BA experience will better highlight you being ready for the roles with that real world experience rather than just listing the skills above that.

That makes sense in moving my experience above skills as recruiters would want to see how I actually applied my skills to these roles, especially if I put the skill and quantifiable achievements in bold.

As a hiring manager, I’d be concerned with the short stints showing up in v5. v6 makes it less evident and more focused on what you’re able to do.

I now have a version 7 resume. When I do include all the jobs I’ve had since 2022 employment gaps are minimal, when I leave out those jobs employment gaps can become questionable.

And now after another day and some more help from a career specialist, I now have a version 8

To me this looks quite a bit stronger (v8)
