Introductions đź‘‹

Lots of new folks are showing up on the user list! Let’s introduce ourselves.

Keeping it simple, what’s your name, where are you from, what do you do for work?

Bonus: what is your favorite food? What are you hoping to get from the community?

I’ll start.

My name is Zack Martin, I’m the Community Product Manager at Solid and I’m joining from North Bend, Oregon, US.

My favorite food is sushi - I could eat it every day. I usually go for unagi or toro nigiri but will try anything once.

I’m excited to have a place where people can learn from one another. I personally want to keep building my analytics skills but also build a strong network of people across different industries.

Hi, I’m Jasmin, from Lübeck, in northern Germany and right now I am self employed. Since I want to change my career path into data analysis, I am looking for a job for a stable income and to finance my studies
Favorite food is hard  I guess Rouladen. Much of you might not know that, it is a traditional german meal. It’s thin beef or pork filled with bacon, onion, and pickles. Baked in the oven, google it, it is delicous :face_savoring_food: But a good tomatosoup is also something…I love food, so it is hard to decide

Hi Jasmin, welcome! Rouladen looks very good, I can see why it is your favorite.

My cousin lives in Leipzig, I am planning to visit him soon. He is from Hessen. Not quite North, but not south. It looks like a lovely place to live.

Are you taking university courses when you say “studies” or are you doing certifications?

Hi,

My name is Mindah, from Nairobi Kenya. Nice to join this community. I’m in the technology department for Ogilvy Africa, in Nairobi handling data analytics and management responsibilities for my department. I also do technical writing for data related topics.

My favorite food is Pilau-Rice cooked in stock with spices.

I am very excited to join this community where I can learn and grow with professionals in data. I am very focused on improving my skills and networking even more.
Side Note: The biggest challenge for me in the data space is settling on a specialization.

Welcome @Mindah_Roche! We’re happy to have you here.

Choosing a specialization can be difficult. I found supply chain very interesting and spent much of my time there. It’s especially complex when dealing with trade, but generally supply chain & logistics has a lot of very interesting problems to solve.

Have you considered doing some freelance consulting? That may be a good way to get exposure to different industries.

@zack Thank you for the warm welcome!

You’re absolutely right! Choosing a specialization in data can be a challenge, especially with so many interesting areas to explore. I haven’t delved into supply chain and logistics much yet, but your experience makes it sound like a space full of complex and rewarding problems. I’ll definitely look into it further.

I’ve started doing some freelance consulting in analytics and reporting, which has been a helpful way to gain exposure to different industries and understand where I might want to focus long-term. I’d really appreciate any insights or resources you’d recommend for someone interested in getting started in supply chain analytics.

Looking forward to learning more from you and the community!

I am a Business Intelligence / Data Analyst, focusing on SQL, Power BI, and data visualization to help organizations turn data into actionable insights. I graduated from Michigan State University with a Masters in Business Data Science and Analytics. I was born and brought up in the middle east in a country called Kuwait but ethnically an Indian.

I joined this community today to learn, share knowledge, and connect with other data professionals. I’m also currently looking for new job opportunities in the US in Business Analyst, BI Analyst, or Data Analyst roles. If anyone here can point me toward the right contact or opportunity, I’d really appreciate it. Looking forward to connecting with you all! Thank you for the invite @zack

So glad to have you here @Abhisheik_Kalia - welcome!!

I love chicken shawarma and Kebabs! I don’t think I have had Rajma, but would love to try it. I love a good Tikka Masala, my favorite local restaurant here makes a fantastic one that I get extra spicy!

The job market is just crazy right now. You have some good credentials so hopefully you will find the right opportunity soon. I know several of our GOATs members have found new opportunities recently and can possibly provide you some tips.

I created the Collaboration Lab so people can use that to post networking requests (among other things) - so you could post that you’re looking to network & get some advice there, if you’re looking for that.

Well if in the near future we ever get to meet up, I will surely get you some home cooked Rajma Rice. I’ve been told I am relatively decent cook :squinting_face_with_tongue: .

Yes the Job market is very intense right now. Well i’ll use the Collaboration Lab category as per your advice. Thanks for letting me know.

I’d be happy to take you up on that! I always enjoy some good authentic home cooking.

Yes, feel free to post in there. I’d love to see more people networking one-on-one that way. Right now we’re mostly meeting on virtual social hours & people are meeting through the mentorship program.
